Sep 29, 2006 : 15 yr old Eric Hainstock brought 2 guns to Weston School in rural Cazenovia,Wisconsin and fatally shot his principal, John Klang, after Klang had given him a disciplinay warning for having tobacco on school grounds.
Sep 27, 2006 : 53 yr old gunman Duane Morrison took 6 gals hostage at Platte Canyon High School in Bailey, Colorado. Morrison used the gals as human shields before he fatally wounded 16 yr old Emily Keyes and then killed himself.
Aug 24, 2006 : Christopher Williams, 27, went to Esses Elementary School, Vermont looking for him ex-gf, Andreas Lambesis. He shot and killed teacher Mary Alicia Shanks, 56, at the school, and Lambesis’ mother.
Nov 8, 2005 : 15 yr old Ken Bartley Jr, a high school freshman, is arrested after the fatal shooting of asst princi Ken Bruce at Campbell County High School in eastern Tennessee.
Mar 21, 2006 : 16 yr old Jeff Weise shot and killed 5 schoolmates, a teacher and an unarmed guard at Red Lake High School on the Red Lake Indian Reservation in Minnesota before taking his own life.

Compared to these, ahem, school boys, I guess I must look positively angelic to my teachers at school.
-> Even if my ‘talks’ with my teachers usually started off with terms like “….who stole the attendance register?”, “what did to you tell her, she’s crying…”, “NO! No games period today”, “the ceiling fan is missing…”, “Last bench, stand UP!” and almost always ended with phrases such as “how dare you reply to me like that”, “wh-what do you mean” , “shut up” , “shut up I say”, followed by a walk to the principal’s.
-> Even if I HAVE felt like making micemeat of quite a long list of people ranging from a classmate in 2nd std who did not lend me his brown crayon for my tree drawing (incidentally, i used purple – see, an astronaut to Mars in the making) to a lab assistant who caught me trying to draw Aishwarya Rai in my record notebook to a huge ArrayList of teachers with my principal as the 0-th element.
-> Even if me and my friends did play-act shooting down quite a few ‘mental’ teachers every year during Diwali. (Send me an offline for the names that figured the most on our hit list)

psst : The missing ceiling fan was a broken ceiling fan 10 mins before, and it had 4 different sets of fingerprints on it.

The Indian Express derails
Mahesh Bhupathi has announced that henceforth he will not be available to represent the tricolor. Between the lines, he’s just told everybody he doesn’t play any more with Leander, whether political or egoistic or on the court. They made pulses race in ’99 when they stormed into the finals of all  4 Grand Slams, winning at Roland Garros and Wimbledon. They ended the year ranked No.1. But more than the trophies, it was the satisfaction and excitement of seeing two homegrown champions steamrolling the opposition. It was something totally new to the Indian sports watcher. The dominance, the tenacious come-from-behind wins, and the chest-butts! Man, the chest-butts! Were they rocking! India had found new sporting heroes, apart from cricket, after a long time. There was a brief reunion in 2001 when they won the French, but it proved to be a sojourn. The Indian summer of ’99 will remain close to my heart a bit longer.
