Book Review: God’s Debris – Scott Adams

Filed under: Books — Santhosh @ 5:43 PM
Book Name: God’s Debris
Author: Scott Adams
Genre: Novella
This ‘thought experiment’ by the creator of Dilbert (yea, I know. I know that you know but this is for those I know don’t know but think they know) has just zoomed up my personal all time ratings to pretty much near the top. A refreshingly different genre, I just love the way Adams has brought out his thoughts on a variety of subjects centered on a central theme.
The entire book is an intriguing discussion between two people – a delivery man and an Avatar. The discussion travels across dimensions and orientations, across meta-physics and probability theory, across “I am God” and “we are all God’s debris”.
Christianity proclaims that God is omnipotent and that man has free will. So if God is omnipotent then how can he have no say over man’s will and if man has free will then shouldn’t that mean that God is not omnipotent?
The end though is more than a wee bit patronizing in its tone, when Adams decides to allot the last few pages to self-help tips.
In all, one of the best I’ve read in a long time.
My Rating: 5/5
