The Proverbial Treatment!

This post is for days of making me do all those மொழி பெயர்த்து எழுதுக in my Tamil II papers when my teachers used to have this strange look on their faces when the answer sheets were distributed. How was I to know that the equivalent of “Every dog has his day” is supposed to be “யானைக்கும் அடி சரக்கும்” and not “நாய் வாழ்க்கை டா இது“.
I know, I know. There are spelling errors aplenty in what I’ve just typed up in Tamil. Everyone who knows me would have flipped if it was otherwise.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away.
Wonder what the doctor’s wife thinks of it.
Also have to take this in perspective with “One rotten apple spoils the whole barrel”.

Behind every successful man there is a woman.
Now we all know what women look forward to.

Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.
Why can’t it just be honest instead?

There is no smoke without fire.
Is Deepa Mehta working on Smoke now?

All for one and one for all.
Looks like the scorecard for an India-Aus cricket match.

Appearances can be deceiving.
How true! Half the girls I seem to come across are BAKKU-SHANs.

Out of sight, out of mind.
Just ask my exam papers!

Haste makes waste.
Wonder how much Mr.Haste earns in this profession.

There’s no place like home.
Especially if you have to pay 5k all alone.

Half a loaf is better than none.
Why don’t you come around and try a sandwich at my office’s foodcourt?

It’s not over ’till it’s over.
Remember Zaheer’s first over of WC’03 finals?

Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
And the mobile bill bigger.

Actions speak louder than words.
But why then do our “Action Kings” also have “punch” dialogues?

When it rains, it pours.
And then Messrs. Duckworth and Lewis have a ball.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Which is why we take an eye for an eye?

Beggars can’t be choosers.
Yea! They can buy the whole goddamn showroom

Beware of Greeks bearing gifts!
Beware of managers bearing praises!

Birds of a feather flock together!
True! India’s just followed Pakistan out of the World Cup.

All roads lead to Rome.
Then what about the road not taken?
And why do Bangalore’s city planners complain of traffic jams?

Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
Are Will and Way siamese twins?

You can’t please everyone.
Of course you can; change your name to “Great-guy”.

A penny saved is a penny earned.
And then you can pay VAT for that.

A stitch in time saves nine.
Note to all apparel-makers : This is for maintenance(us), NOT during Development(you).

Don’t lock the stable door after the horse is stolen.
Yea, convert it into a 1 BHK and rent it out.

Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise!
But don’t come crying that your wife’s run off with your gardener.
