Farewell Brian!

Filed under: Sports — Santhosh @ 7:25 AM

The weaver of a thousand dreams, the wielder of the magic wand, the maker of giant innings, the breaker of records.
Immortal player, temporal man. Stroke play radiant as his smile,
Where Sachin’s was classy, Dravid’s was pure, Ponting’s pushing, Ganguly’s timed, Lara’s strokeplay was full-blooded with a full follow through. Savagery but artsy. Nothing checked or equivocal.
Cavalier in maroon. Girls and parties, with a century the next morning. Vivacious at his best, sullen when not – both on and off the field. Joie de vivre! The utterly compelling and the utterly gorgeous.
The one person to mock opponents by threading boundaries through spots where fielders had just been removed. The one person to walk after being adjudged not-out. The one person to hit you more the more you sledge him. The one person to play for what sport stands for – entertainment.
To hell with Ponting, Dravid, Kallis, Waugh and Inzi – Sachin and Lara are the best of the 90s generation.
Thanks Brian. It’s been one helluva entertaining 17 years.
