What’s the deal with IM windows that make you use emoticons?
Yesterday I was chatting with this schoolmate of mine and he told me “you really are a funny a**hole” followed by a “:)”. Was that supposed to be funny? Well, I told him to “f*ck you” and added a “:))” and he replied back with a “;)”.
Now, can you imagine the above conversation taking place in real life where someone calls you an a** and starts smiling and you insult the sense out of him and laugh back and he winks at you like you’re both gay???
And while on the topic of IM’s, what’s with “wassup?” as a greeting?
In the physical world, has anyone ever greeted someone with “What is up?”????

why are you so annoyed by the emoticons? I think they provide you much more flexibility for expressing emotions in written communication.
